Trapper

Overview

Conducts trap-neuter-return (TNR) operations and rescue of stray and feral cats using humane trapping methods.

Responsibilities

– Set and monitor humane traps for feral and stray cats
– Coordinate trapping schedules with property owners and caretakers
– Transport trapped cats to veterinary appointments
– Provide pre and post-surgical care for TNR cats
– Maintain and clean trapping equipment
– Assess cats for tameness and adoption potential
– Return feral cats to their territories after spay/neuter
– Document trapping activities and cat information – Train new volunteers in proper trapping techniques
– Respond to emergency trapping situations
– Participate in SETNR Trapping Facebook Chat group

Time Commitment

8-15 hours per week, flexible but often early morning/evening

Skills

– Experience with animal trapping or willingness to receive extensive training
– Physical ability to lift traps and transport equipment
– Reliable vehicle suitable for transporting traps and cats
– Patience for potentially long waits during trapping
– Calm demeanor when dealing with scared or aggressive cats
– Flexible schedule including early mornings and weekends
– Strong problem-solving skills for challenging trapping situations
