Groomer

Overview

Provides grooming services for rescue cats to improve their health, comfort, and adoptability through professional grooming techniques.

Responsibilities

– Assess cats’ grooming needs and create appropriate grooming plans
– Provide basic grooming services including brushing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning
– Perform baths for cats with skin conditions or excessive matting
– Safely remove mats and tangles from long-haired cats
– Trim overgrown nails and clean ears as needed
– Apply flea treatments and medicated shampoos as directed
– Recognize and report skin conditions or health concerns to Foster Coordinator
– Work with fearful or aggressive cats using gentle restraint techniques
– Maintain grooming equipment and supplies
– Document grooming activities and any health observations

Time Commitment

2-8 hours per week, flexible scheduling

Skills

– Professional grooming certification or extensive experience preferred
– Knowledge of cat behavior and stress reduction techniques
– Physical ability to safely restrain and handle cats of various temperaments
– Patience with fearful, matted, or uncooperative cats
– Understanding of skin conditions and parasite identification
– Own grooming tools and equipment or access to professional facilities
– Gentle approach with traumatized or neglected animals
– Ability to recognize when professional veterinary care is needed
