- [Moving Toward a TNR-Friendly Animal Ordinance – Part 1](https://siouxempiretnr.org/moving-toward-a-tnr-friendly-animal-ordinance-part-1/): The goal of the Sioux Empire TNR Coalition is to amend the City of Sioux Falls' animal care ordinance to allow for an effective and thriving TNR program. The first step in the process is to get in front of the City Council and present our suggested changes, which were crafted with the pro bono help of an attorney with experience working in animal welfare. On Tuesday, August 8th, we will present our first public testimony to the council, which happens during the Public Input period of the weekly meetings. Once we have done that, we will be contacting each council person in order to find two sponsors. With two sponsors in hand, we can push to have the ordinance change made part of their regular agenda. The changes require two "readings" which occur during the regular order of business of the council, which meets for the first three Tuesdays of the month.
- [Fundraiser for Ranger](https://siouxempiretnr.org/fundraiser-for-ranger/): Well it seems appropriate for our first news post to talk about a kitten in need! Since Sioux Empire TNR Coalition's goal is to reduce cat overpopulation, we don't normally take in kittens but work with other rescue groups, such as The Kitten League, to handle intake and adoptions. However, word of this little life came to us this past weekend and since every rescue is overwhelmed with kittens, we just couldn't say no.

Maisie can be a little shy and quiet when you first meet her but once she’s comfortable, she is very affectionate and loves cuddling with her people. She really loves to sleep with you so get ready for making a spot for her in your bed! She also really loves food, and as a proper tortie, can be vocal and chatty with a bit of sass when she’s feeling happy. Maisie also does well with other cats and dogs. Come check out Maisie, you want regret meeting this wonderful girl!

Willie can be very shy when you first meet him, which has made it harder for him to be adopted. He also finds meet and greet events very stressful (and who can blame him?) Once he gets to know you, he’s a very sweet, loving boy who just wants to find people of his own to bond with. He would do best in a quiet home with adults or older children. Willie is the perfect cat for someone who wants a feline buddy to hang out with them on the couch and snuggle in bed at night. Don’t let his shyness deter you, this is one special guy!

We estimate that she’s about 2-3 years old and came to us from the Humane Society with her 4 kittens. The babies have all been adopted and Josephine is waiting for her home. She is an extremely loving and affectionate cat and enjoys snuggling. She’s surprisingly playful for her age and enjoys chasing toys around and a good dose of catnip! She has a calm, gentle temperament when she’s not playing and generally does well around other animals, particularly kittens.

- [Kitten Yoga Waiver](https://siouxempiretnr.org/kitten-yoga-waiver/): I understand that yoga includes physical movements as well as an opportunity for relaxation, stress reduction and relief of muscular tension. Participation in yoga class includes, but is not limited to, meditation techniques, yogic breathing techniques, and performing various yoga postures. Yoga is designed to exercise every part of the body – stretching and toning the muscles and joints, the spine and the entire skeletal system. Yoga incorporates sustained stretching to strengthen the muscles and increase flexibility. Yoga is an individual experience.

- [The Situation](https://siouxempiretnr.org/situation/): Recently, Sioux Falls animal rescues have been overwhelmed with feline intakes. As Sioux Falls has grown so has the feral cat population in and around the area.  Currently a majority of rescues that work with cats are on an intake hold as they are all well beyond capacity.. both physically and financially.   A Sioux Falls resident who encounters a pregnant, stay cat is hard pressed to find a rescue to aid and shelter that mother cat or any other cat in need.  In lieu of forming another rescue that will immediately fill up, we are looking to address the problem at its source by forming a coalition of rescues and passionate cat people to implement and sustain a TNR program for the area. This program would be run and funded independently as a 501c3 non profit organization funded through grants and donations and would require nothing from the city other than the blessing of allowing us to carry out our mission.
